Autumn 2026 Newsletter Now Available
Our Autumn 2026 Newsletter is now available, bringing together the latest news from Pragmatic Consulting alongside practical insights and industry updates for professionals working across the construction and utilities sectors.
This edition looks at some of the issues currently affecting businesses and individuals across the industry, with a focus on People, Knowledge and Performance.
People: Developing Skills and Careers
People remain at the heart of a successful industry, so our People section looks at how experience, training and continued development can support both individuals and organisations.
We explore why training and practical experience work best together, the skills that can help construction professionals future-proof their careers, and the wide range of career paths available beyond traditional site-based roles.
With the industry continuing to focus on bringing new talent into construction while retaining valuable experience, there are plenty of opportunities to develop skills and build a rewarding career.
Knowledge: Keeping Up with Requirements
Keeping knowledge up to date is an important part of working safely and competently.
Our Knowledge section looks at confined spaces, including why a space does not necessarily need to be small to present confined space risks. We also look at the recent EUSR CSCS card changes, which introduced a new process for utilities workers from 1 October 2026.
Understanding changes to qualifications, registrations and site access requirements can help individuals and employers make sure they have the right training and documentation in place.
Performance: Planning for Success
Good performance does not happen by accident. It starts with effective leadership, good preparation and having the right people with the right skills.
Our Performance section explores the role of leadership, why preparation before work begins can make a difference to safety and efficiency, and how businesses can take a more proactive approach to workforce planning.
With the construction industry facing continued skills shortages, planning for future workforce requirements is becoming increasingly important. Developing existing employees, bringing new people into the industry and retaining valuable experience all have a part to play.
