Course Overview

The First Aid at Work (3-Day) course is a fully accredited training programme designed for employees tasked with providing first aid in the workplace. Meeting the requirements of the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981, this course equips delegates with the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence to respond effectively to workplace emergencies.

Delivered over three days, the programme combines theoretical learning with hands-on practice, including CPR, AED usage, and management of injuries and medical conditions. It is ideal for first aiders, supervisors, team leaders, and any staff responsible for maintaining a safe working environment. Successful completion provides a nationally recognised certificate valid for 3 years.

This course ensures participants are prepared to:

Assess incidents and ensure scene safety
Respond to common workplace injuries and medical emergencies
Administer CPR and use automated external defibrillators (AEDs)
Understand their legal duties as a first aider under workplace regulations

What To Have With You To Attend The Course

Assessment

Continuous practical assessment is carried out by the instructor throughout the day, including a written assessment for unit 2.

Course Content

Day 1 – Unit 1: Foundations and Basic Emergency Response

Introduction to First Aid
Legal framework and responsibilities of a first aider
Action in an emergency: primary survey and secondary assessment
Respiratory system, disorders, and management
Circulatory system and common disorders
Wounds, bleeding control, and dressing techniques
Seizures and epilepsy awareness
Minor burns, scalds, and foreign object management
Practical skills assessments

Day 2 & 3 – Unit 2: Advanced First Aid & Practical Scenarios

Musculoskeletal injuries: fractures, sprains, head, spinal, chest, and abdominal injuries
Burns, chemical, and electrical injuries
Eye injuries and poisoning response
Recognition and treatment of anaphylaxis
Managing major illnesses: heart attack, stroke, diabetes, asthma, etc.
CPR and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) practical sessions
Full practical and written assessments
