The CITB Temporary Works Co-ordinator Training Course (TWCTC) is a two-day programme designed to build a clear understanding of the temporary works co-ordination process and its vital role in safe and efficient project delivery.
Developed in partnership with the Temporary Works Forum, the HSE, and Build UK, this course explains how temporary works should be managed in line with BS 5975:2019 and the updated BS 5975-1:2024 standards. It focuses on the principles of co-ordination, communication, co-operation, and competency — the “4Cs” essential to effective temporary works management.
Rather than teaching detailed engineering design, the TWCTC concentrates on the management and procedural aspects of temporary works, helping delegates understand their responsibilities, the importance of collaboration across teams, and how good practice reduces risk across all project scales.
Completion of the course demonstrates a strong understanding of the Temporary Works Co-ordinator (TWC) role and supports ongoing professional competence within the industry. The qualification is recognised across the UK and remains valid for five years before renewal is required.

This training is endorsed by BuildUK.
Each delegate will receive Course Materials designed by our TW Experts and the CITB Mandatory Publications for this course.
You will need to successfully complete a minimum of 4 mandatory exercises, complete the learner review, pass the trainer review and the end of course exam. This exam lasts for 45 minutes and consists of 22 questions of which 18 of these are multiple choice questions (each worth one mark; no half marks available) and 4 free text questions (each worth one to three marks. Part marks are available, but no half marks should be awarded). The exam pass mark is 78% (21 out of 27).
The examination is open book: learners are permitted to use their course workbook – which may include any notes made by the learner during the course – for the duration of the exam.
The exam must be taken at the end of the temporary works co-ordinator training course.
On successful completion of the 2-day temporary works co-ordinator training course, the delegates are awarded the Construction Industry Training Board (Site Safety Plus) Certificate in PDF format, this is sent electronically to the course booker.
To remain certified in this area, you will need to retake a course before the expiry date on your certificate, otherwise the full course will need to be retaken.
Great Course, really interesting, knowledgeable and engaging trainer. Content was eye opening and impressive.
Great trainer and well presented ... really good.
It was a good course to get an overall idea about TWC.
I really enjoyed this course, it was very informative and useful for my role. Damien is very engaging, it is a lot of information to take on but it was conveyed in a way that makes it easier to digest with some very good real life examples to help us put it into context. Will recommend to others within my business.
Thank you for the course, i think the 5-minute breaks were vital for the volume of information. this course has given me a good understanding of Temporary Works and responsibilities, in which i would feel confident in challenging our Principal Contractors on.
Understood clearly with great tuition from the tutor, Damien Brennan.
Damien was very engaging and kept the course entertaining and engaging. Very knowledgeable in the subject of TW and delivered the course very well.
Was very interactive, enough time was given by Damien to take notes/absorb information and recap everything after every module to ensure you was taking everything in.
