Course Overview

The EUSR-Approved Asbestos Awareness course provides essential knowledge for anyone who may encounter asbestos or asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) during their work. Although asbestos is no longer used in construction, it remains present in millions of UK buildings, and accidental disturbance continues to be a major cause of exposure incidents.

This course ensures delegates understand where asbestos may be found, why it is dangerous, how to avoid disturbing it, and what to do in the event of accidental exposure. It meets the requirements of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (CAR 2012) and is suitable for a wide range of industries including construction, maintenance, utilities, facilities management, housing, and building refurbishment.

Delivered by experienced instructors and approved under the Energy & Utility Skills Register (EUSR), this training supports legal compliance and promotes safe working practices for operatives, supervisors, and anyone whose role may bring them into contact with the fabric of older buildings.

Important: This course provides awareness-level training only. It does not qualify delegates to remove, repair, or deliberately work on asbestos-containing materials.

Types of asbestos (chrysotile, amosite, crocidolite) and their characteristics
Why asbestos was widely used, its properties, and where it may still be found

Health Effects & Risks

How asbestos fibres affect the lungs and respiratory system
Common asbestos-related diseases (asbestosis, mesothelioma, lung cancer, pleural thickening)
The long-term nature of symptoms and the importance of early risk avoidance

Asbestos-Containing Materials (ACMs)

Typical uses of ACMs in domestic, commercial, and industrial buildings
High-risk vs low-risk materials and how they behave when disturbed
Examples of ACMs in insulation, textured coatings, pipe lagging, floor tiles, and roofing materials

Avoiding Exposure
