EUSR SHEA Power Conversion

Participants of this EUSR SHEA Power Conversion course will explore how SHEA principles apply specifically within the power industry and learn how to identify and control hazards associated with electricity generation and distribution.

• Power Industry Legislation & Safety Framework: Understand health, safety, and environmental legislation relevant to the power sector.
• Electrical Hazards & Risk Management: Identify risks such as electric shock, burns, arcing, and impressed voltage, and apply sector-safe systems of work.
• Safe Work Practices: Explore how authorisations, permits, and safety documentation ensure controlled working environments.
• Environmental Responsibilities: Learn about pollution prevention, waste management, and sustainability in power operations.
• Roles & Responsibilities: Clarify individual and employer responsibilities for maintaining compliance with EUSR and industry standards.
• Emergency & Incident Response: Review procedures for electrical incidents, near misses, and safety communication.

Modules
The course focuses on two core SHEA Power-specific modules contextualised to real-world power industry operations:

1. Power Generation and Distribution
   Gain an understanding of how electricity is generated, transmitted, and distributed across the UK network.
   Learn about substations, overhead lines, and underground cables, including an introduction to key network components and voltage levels.
2. Power Industry Hazards
   Develop an awareness of electrical safety principles, the importance of authorisations, and key hazards such as shock, burns, arcing, and impressed voltage.
   Understand how to minimise risk through safe systems of work and appropriate control measures.
