Course Content

SCO Core (Module 1)

  • Introduction to the SCO scheme and structure
  • Legal requirements and responsibilities under gas safety law
  • Safe systems of work and hazard recognition
  • Roles and responsibilities of competent personnel

Permit to Work (Module 2)

  • Issuing, accepting, and closing permits for controlled operations
  • Responsibilities in routine permit-controlled work
  • Documentation, record-keeping, and communication requirements
  • Practical application of permit-to-work processes in line with GL/6 guidance
  • Delivery Format: Instructor-led in-person training
  • Certification:
    • EUSR SCO Core & Modules 1 & 2 certificate (valid 5 years)
    • Eligible for EUSR registration upon completion
  • Industry Recognition:
    • Valid across UK gas networks, utility contractors, and EUSR-registered employers
  • Module 1 & 2: Core & Permit to work was previously known as SCO 1
  • Other
    • Module 1 (Core) is a prerequisite for all other SCO modules
    • Module 2 (Permit to Work) must be completed before progressing to Modules 3 (Non-Routine Operations) or 4 (Routine Operations)
    • SHEA Gas must remain in date to maintain SCO validity
