Course Overview

The EUSR HSG47 – Avoiding Dangers from Underground Services (HV Substations) course provides essential skills for safely working near underground utilities, particularly within or adjacent to National Grid Live HV Substations. This accredited training ensures operatives understand safe excavation principles, the correct use of CAT and Genny equipment, and how to avoid utility strikes in high-risk environments.

Aligned with HSG47 guidance, delegates learn to interpret utility drawings, identify different types of underground services, and implement safe digging practices. The course is suitable for operatives, supervisors, and nominated roles, and is often a prerequisite for Principal Contractors and SR163.11 PCSM positions.

By the end of the course, delegates will have the practical and theoretical knowledge needed to work safely around buried services and overhead lines within HV substations, supporting compliance with industry regulations and promoting a culture of safety on-site.
