EUSR SHEA Water

The SHEA Water curriculum has been developed in consultation with the water industry and comprises eight core modules, plus water-specific content contextualised to real-world operational environments.

Core SHEA Modules

1. Understanding Our Workplace Responsibilities
   – Legal duties for employers and employees
   – How responsibilities apply across water utility environments
2. Understanding the Effects of Our Work on the Environment
   – Environmental protection and sustainability within water operations
   – Minimising pollution and safeguarding natural resources
3. Identifying and Controlling Risks
   – Hazard awareness and risk assessment techniques
   – Positive safety behaviours and risk control hierarchy
4. Common Hazards in the Workplace
   – Identifying typical on-site hazards
   – Controls aligned with CSCS requirements
5. Occupational Health Hazards
   – Noise, vibration, hazardous substances, manual handling
   – Managing long-term health risks in water utility roles
6. Responding to Emergencies
   – Emergency actions, incident reporting and escalation
   – Roles of regulatory bodies and health & safety enforcement

Water-Specific Modules

1. Sewerage Network and Process Operations
   – Hazards associated with sewerage systems and treatment processes
   – Safe practices around biological, mechanical, and confined process areas
2. Highway Working and Excavations
   – Safe systems of work for activities on public and private highways
   – Signing, guarding, excavation safety, and emergency considerations

Training is delivered entirely within the context of water utility environments to ensure relevance and practical understanding.
