This 18th Edition Exam Only option lets experienced electricians sit the City & Guilds 2382-26 exam without attending the full 3-day training course. It is designed for professionals who are confident in their knowledge of BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 and want to formally confirm their competence.

The exam tests your understanding of the current IET Wiring Regulations, including the Amendment 4 changes, such as:

New Chapter 57: stationary batteries and energy storage
New Section 545: functional earthing and bonding for ICT equipment
New Section 716: Power over Ethernet (PoE)

BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 was published on 15 April 2026.

Is there a transition period?

Yes. The previous version (BS 7671:2018+A2:2022, with Amendment 3:2024) is withdrawn on 15 October 2026. After that, Amendment 4 is the only current version, and City & Guilds exams are 2382-26 only.

Is Amendment 4 a new edition?

No. It is an amendment to the 18th Edition. There is no 19th Edition yet.

Do I need new training for Amendment 4?

If you already hold a 2382-18 or 2382-22 qualification, there is no legal requirement to retake it. However, many employers and competent person schemes expect you to be up to date.
