The CITB Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) Refresher is a one-day course for delegates who have previously completed the full two-day SSSTS course within the last five years. This refresher updates supervisors on current health, safety, welfare, and environmental standards, as well as legislative changes relevant to construction site supervision.

Endorsed by BuildUK and the United Kingdom Contractors Group (UKCG), this course is designed to maintain compliance and reinforce best practice in supervising construction activities. Delegates will gain a highly recognised qualification, valid for five years, ensuring ongoing competence as a site supervisor.

Who should Attend This Course

The CITB SSSTS Refresher course is for delegates who have previously passed the two day CITB SSSTS course within the last five years and can provide in date proof of successful attendance.

Prerequisites

  • A valid SSSTS certificate gained in the last five years. You must take this course before your certificate expires
  • To be able to read, write and understand English to a good level.
  • Valid form of ID

What To Have With You To Attend The Course

  • Photo ID
  • Access to a laptop or PC computer with a webcam, microphone, and speaker, a stable internet connection and quiet space for the entirity of the course

Assessment

The examination paper is compulsory and consists of 25 questions, the exam lasts for 30 minutes and covers all aspects of the course. The examination pass mark is 80% (24 out of 30). The paper consists of 22 multiple choice questions and three short written questions. There are four safety critical questions in each exam paper. The delegate must answer all four of these questions correctly to pass the exam. The multiple-choice questions are worth 1 point each, whereas written questions can score between 1-3 marks. Delegates are permitted to use the Construction site supervision (GE706) publication for the last ten minutes of the examination period. Each exam paper has 18 multiple choice questions (each worth one mark) and 7 questions in multi-response or short written answer format (each worth two marks) Delegates are permitted to use the Construction site safety – The comprehensive guide (GE700) publication for the last 15 minutes of the exam.

The SSSTS Refresher revisits key topics from the original SSSTS course, highlighting recent legislative and procedural changes. The course uses practical examples to support supervisors in effectively managing their daily responsibilities and maintaining compliance.

Module 3 – Site Setup & Equipment

  • Site security and fire safety
  • Electricity, plant, and equipment safety
  • Lifting operations and lifting equipment

Module 4 – Working at Height & Confined Spaces

  • Safe working at height
  • Excavations, underground and overhead services
  • Confined spaces and temporary works

Module 5 – Environmental Awareness

  • Pollution and waste management
  • Minimising site nuisance and environmental impact

All delegates receive CITB mandatory publications relevant to the course (eBooks for virtual courses, hardcopy for in-person delivery).
