Course Overview

The Emergency Paediatric First Aid course is a practical, 1-day programme designed to give learners the essential knowledge and confidence to respond effectively to emergency situations involving babies and children.

This qualification meets the EYFS requirements for emergency first aid and is suitable for early years practitioners, childcare staff, teachers, parents, and anyone responsible for the care of infants and young children.

Through hands-on demonstrations, scenario-based activities, and guided practice with training manikins, delegates will learn how to deliver immediate lifesaving treatment, recognise serious paediatric conditions, and provide safe, effective first aid until professional help arrives.

  • Conducting a primary survey for infants and children
  • Assessing danger, responsiveness, airway, breathing, and circulation

Paediatric CPR & Resuscitation

  • CPR techniques for babies (0–1 year) and children (1–puberty)
  • Use of AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) in paediatric scenarios
  • Recovery position for infants and children

Airway Emergencies & Choking

  • Recognition of partial and complete airway obstruction
  • Back blows, chest thrusts, and abdominal thrusts (age-appropriate techniques)
  • Post-choking aftercare and ongoing monitoring

Managing Severe Bleeding, Shock & Trauma

  • Identifying and treating life-threatening bleeding
  • Use of pressure, dressings, and urgent wound care
  • Recognising and managing signs of shock
  • Responding to head injuries, falls, and common childhood trauma

Allergic Reactions & Anaphylaxis

  • Early signs and symptoms in infants and children
