The CITB SSSTS is a two-day course designed to provide supervisors with a clear understanding of health, safety, welfare, and environmental responsibilities on construction sites. Who should Attend This Course

This two-day SSSTS course is for site supervisors. or are about to acquire, supervisory responsibilities.

Prerequisites

To be able to read, write and understand English to a good level.

What To Have With You To Attend The Course

Photo ID
Access to a laptop or PC computer with a webcam, microphone, and speaker, a stable internet connection and quiet space for the entirety of the course

Assessment

Prepare and deliver a toolbox talk to other course delegates and complete a 25-question examination which has 22 multiple choice questions and three short written questions and answers. There are four safety critical questions at the beginning of each paper that must be answered correctly. Delegates are permitted to use the Construction site supervision (GE706) publication for the last ten minutes of the examination period.

Course Content

By the end of the CITB SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme), delegates will be able to:
Understand the challenges and risks commonly encountered in the construction industry
Apply health and safety legislation effectively in a supervisory role
Recognise how their role fits within the site management structure
Carry out and interpret risk assessments and method statements
Deliver effective site inductions, toolbox talks, and method statement briefings
Monitor and manage site activities to maintain safe working conditions
Identify and act promptly when unsafe practices are observed

Module 1 – Health & Safety Management

Health and safety law and legal responsibilities
Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM)
Health and safety management systems
Risk assessments and method statements
Statutory inspections and checks
Reporting accidents, injuries, and ill health
Leadership and worker engagement

Module 2 – Workforce Health & Welfare

Health and welfare considerations on site
First aid and emergency procedures
Hazardous substances and asbestos awareness
Dust, fumes, noise, and vibration management
Manual handling

Module 3 – Site Operations & Equipment

Site setup and security
Fire prevention and control
Electricity, plant work, and equipment safety
Lifting operations and lifting equipment

Module 4 – Working Practices & Site Hazards

Working at height
Excavations and trench safety
Underground and overhead services
Confined spaces
Temporary works

Module 5 – Environmental Awareness

Pollution prevention and control
Waste management
Managing environmental nuisance on site

Each delegate will receive the CITB Mandatory Publications (eBooks for virtual courses and hardcopy for face-to-face courses)

The exam must be taken at the end of the site supervisor safety training scheme.

On successful completion of the 2-day site supervisor safety training scheme, the delegates are awarded the Construction Industry Training Board (Site Safety Plus) Certificate in PDF format, this is sent electronically to the course booker.

To remain certified in this area, you will need to retake a course before the expiry date on your certificate, otherwise the full course will need to be retaken.
