Course details

This BESC AME Substation Entry Training Course is designed for individuals who need to access, move within, and egress from operational substations safely. Accredited by the Energy & Utility Skills Register (EUSR), this course is essential for those seeking substation access training, including operatives working on UK Power Networks (UKPN) sites.

Please note, this course is not the  National Grid Person Substations. Many people enquiring about BESC actually require the National Grid PERSON Substations (used to be called NG Person and BESC AME Subs).

BESC AME Substation Course Content

Our substation entry training provides participants with the knowledge and assessment required to demonstrate competence in safely entering and exiting high-voltage environments. While the BESC AME scheme is assessment-only ​, our course includes preparatory training to ensure candidates are fully equipped for the evaluation.

• Personnel requiring substation access for work on or near operational electrical equipment.
• Contractors and employees needing UKPN substation entry certification.
• Individuals seeking BESC AME training for compliance with industry standards.​

Course Content

• Understanding substation hazards and safety protocols.
• Procedures for safe access, movement, and egress in substations.
• Familiarization with relevant safety documentation and regulations.
• Preparation for the BESC AME assessment, including mock evaluations.​

Assessment & Certification

Participants will undergo a multiple-choice and written assessment, along with a practical evaluation. Successful candidates will receive EUSR registration, valid for three years, confirming their competence in substation entry procedures.

To remain certified in this area, you will need to retake the assessment before the expiry date on your card.

Prerequisites

No formal qualifications are required; however, a basic understanding of English is necessary to comprehend course materials and assessments.
