EUSR National Water Hygiene (eLearning) (NWH) (Blue Card)

Our National Water Hygiene training (EUSR Blue Card) is now delivered 100% online. This water hygiene training course covers all required topics for anyone working on potable water systems (treatment plants, reservoirs, mains, etc.). The NWH course teaches the importance of water hygiene, contamination prevention, and legal compliance for the water industry. Delivered as an online water hygiene training program, delegates can complete the course at their own pace on any device. There is no need to travel or attend a classroom – you simply log into our eLearning portal anytime that suits you. Our NWH eLearning is fully interactive and takes roughly 2–3 hours (half-day) to complete, including an online assessment.

Who should take this course?

Any operative, engineer, contractor or manager involved in restricted operations on the clean water network must hold a valid National Water Hygiene (Blue Card) certificate. This includes work on service reservoirs, pumping stations, treatment works, mains and pipes. Course Content

The course content and delivery specification has been developed through consultation with the water industry.

1. The premise that water is a food product and the public expect their water supply to have been treated properly so that it does not cause health problems.
2. The importance of personal hygiene and identification of potential sources of contamination.
3. Awareness of potential for contamination. Includes Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and the need for clean boots.
4. Vehicles – vehicles need to be kept clean and tidy and tools need to be separated. Awareness of where the vehicle has been taken before entering a treatment works e.g., fields, sewage treatment works etc.
5. Multi-functional working – water and sewerage working is becoming common for some companies and the associated risks must be understood.
6. Fuel, diesel and chemical contamination – any of these getting into the water could have detrimental effects.
7. Pets could help to spread water borne diseases e.g., dogs, cats, horses etc – ensure that individuals do not wear the same footwear for work.
8. Chlorine/disinfection, both in the water itself and other usage i.e., how chlorine is used to wash boots, clean tools and in repairs, and the correct disposal of chlorine solution.
9. Awareness and usage surrounding approved products. The right substance for the job
10. Awareness of the sampling and audit processes in place by various bodies.

The course will be delivered through the context of the potable water industry.

Health Assessment

An online health screening question must be completed by all individuals at the start of the eLearning training. In this questionnaire, individuals must declare whether they have, or have had in the preceding 12 months, any of these illnesses:

• Typhoid
• Paratyphoid
• Dysentry
• Persistent diarrhoea or vomiting
• Jaundice or Hepatitis (A or E)
• Prolonged unexplained fever
