Frequently Asked Questions About CITB
What is CITB?
CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) supports training and skills development across the UK construction industry. CITB works with employers, training providers and individuals to help improve skills, competence and safety within construction.
What is CITB Site Safety Plus?
Site Safety Plus (SSP) is CITB’s suite of health, safety, environmental and management courses for people working in construction. The range includes courses from Health and Safety Awareness through to Site Management Safety Training.
Which CITB course is right for me?
The right course depends on your role and responsibilities. HSA provides essential health and safety awareness, SSSTS is aimed at supervisors, and SMSTS is designed for those with site management responsibilities. There are also specialist courses covering areas such as temporary works and environmental awareness.
What is the difference between SMSTS and SSSTS?
SMSTS is designed for people responsible for managing construction sites, while SSSTS is aimed at supervisors and those with supervisory responsibilities. If you’re unsure which level is appropriate for your role, speak to us before booking.
What happens if my CITB certificate expires?
Where a refresher course is available, it should be completed before your existing certificate expires. If your certificate has expired, you may need to complete the full course again rather than the refresher. The exact requirements depend on the course.
Can my employer book CITB training for several employees?
Yes. Employers can arrange training for groups of employees. Training providers may also be able to arrange closed or workplace courses depending on the course and requirements.
Who should take CITB SEATS?
SEATS (Site Environmental Awareness Training Scheme) is designed for people working in construction who have management or supervisory responsibilities and need to understand environmental issues and their responsibilities on site.
Who should take CITB Health and Safety Awareness?
CITB Health and Safety Awareness (HSA) is designed for people working in or entering the construction industry who need an understanding of basic health, safety and environmental responsibilities on site. It is particularly suitable for people who are new to construction.
Can I take a CITB course online from home?
Yes. A number of CITB Site Safety Plus courses can be completed through live online training. Pragmatic Consulting offers selected CITB courses online, allowing delegates to attend remotely rather than travelling to a training centre.
What equipment do I need for an online CITB course?
You will generally need a laptop or computer with a working webcam, microphone and speakers, a reliable internet connection and a suitable quiet space where you can participate without interruptions. Requirements can vary by course.
What is the difference between TWSTC and TWCTC?
TWSTC (Temporary Works Supervisor Training Course) is designed for people responsible for supervising temporary works. TWCTC (Temporary Works Co-ordinator Training Course) is aimed at people who have responsibility for coordinating and managing temporary works. The appropriate course depends on your role within the temporary works process.
