If you're planning to build a boundary wall or fence line, be aware that the process of excavation can quickly lead to unexpected and costly issues.
Beneath your property—and especially near boundaries—there may be a complex network of pipes, cables, and ducts. These utilities can be buried at any depth, and they’re surprisingly easy to strike by accident.
With electricity and gas underground utilities, the most likely physical injury would be burns but not to mention the costly repair bills. What many people don’t realise is that such damage may not be covered by home insurance, especially if proper checks weren’t made before digging.
It is also important to be clear of where your land boundary finishes, and the local authorities starts as you may encroach into the public highway where you do not have permission to excavate. Without permission is not only illegal, it could trigger enforcement action.
