Half day
Our EUSR SCO RO (formerly SCO5) course delivers targeted training for professionals responsible for managing routine operations on gas networks. Designed for delegates who already hold core module credentials, this focused half-day course covers critical supervisory competencies required in day-to-day routine work environments.
Ideal for:
Key topics include:
The course is delivered using interactive presentations, site-based scenarios, and group discussions to reinforce learning.
The course heavily uses the IGEM/GL/6 Edition 3 which was introduced into SCO to increase the emphasis on risk-based management of gas safety systems and gives gas distribution companies the flexibility to develop their own gas safety procedures based on meeting the common requirements of GL/6.
The SCO scheme is based around the requirements for meeting GL/6 compliance.
Participants will complete a short multiple-choice evaluation to validate understanding of routine operation protocols.
Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will receive an SCO RO (SCO5) certificate, valid for five years, and their routine operations competence will be reflected in their EUSR registration.
In order for your SCO to be used, your SHEA Gas & SCO (Safe Control of Operations) Modules 1, 2 & 5: Core, Permit to Work and Form of Authority (Was previously SCO1 &2) must remain in date.
Q. What is the SCO RO (Routine Operations) module?
A. The SCO RO module, previously known as SCO5, focuses on the safe management of routine operational tasks within the gas industry, such as scheduled maintenance, isolation, and reinstatement procedures. It is designed for supervisors and operatives responsible for routine work on gas networks.
Q. Do I need to complete other SCO modules before taking SCO RO?
A. Yes, learners must typically hold a valid SCO Core module (SCO1/2) or have equivalent previous EUSR registration. SCO RO builds on the knowledge from core modules and is not a standalone introductory course.
Q. How long is the SCO RO course and how is it assessed?
A. The course is delivered in one day and includes a short written assessment (multiple-choice questions). Successful completion leads to EUSR registration for Routine Operations.
Q. Who should take the SCO RO (SCO5) training?
A. This course is ideal for those involved in routine gas network operations, including maintenance teams, permit issuers, and site supervisors managing planned, non-emergency work.
Q. Is the SCO RO certificate valid for a specific period?
A. Yes, successful candidates will be issued with an EUSR SCO RO (SCO5) certificate valid for five years. Renewal training is required before expiration to maintain compliance.
Q. Is the course recognised across the UK gas industry?
A. Absolutely. The EUSR SCO RO module is an industry-recognised qualification and is part of the EUSR Safe Control of Operations scheme, meeting national gas compliance standards.
