CITB SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) is a five-day course for site managers. The day release course is typically run 1 day per week over 5 weeks and is a popular choice for busy individuals.
This course has been designed for site managers who are responsible for the monitoring, planning, organising, and controlling of staff. If you are a site supervisor you may want to consider the CITB SSSTS (Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme) instead.
The SMSTS course will provide you with a thorough understanding of health, safety and environmental legislation affecting safe working on site.
Each delegate will receive the CITB Mandatory Publications (eBooks for virtual courses and hardcopy for face-to-face courses)
This training is endorsed by BuildUK.
You gain a highly recognised qualification, which is valid for five years. To remain certified in this area, you will need to retake a course before the expiry date on your certificate, otherwise the full course will need to be retaken.

You are assessed on your involvement throughout the training and your performance on the four core exercises of the course, which are listed below:-
There is an exam that lasts for 35 minutes and consists of 25 questions, selected by CITB, covering all aspects of the course. The exam pass mark is 81% (26 out of 32).
Each exam paper has 18 multiple choice questions (each worth one mark) and 7 questions in multi-response or short written answer format (each worth two marks)
Delegates are permitted to use the Construction site safety – The comprehensive guide (GE700) publication and the Construction site management delegate workbook (XA6) for the last 15 minutes of the exam.
The exam must be taken at the end of the course.
