Course Overview
This course is designed to give plant-based operatives, who may have limited experience, knowledge and understanding to fulfil the role of a cable drum and winch operator.
This course will enable them to be able to effectively position and set up a cable drum and winch for cabling operations, in accordance with company and manufacturer procedures and instructions. To demonstrate a safety conscious approach to the control of hazards associated with such work.
This is a 1-day course 8am to 5pm and is for a maximum of 6 delegates.
Course content:

How to identify and safely access and egress underground and overhead work areas e.g., using safety documentation, risk assessments, method statements.

How to select, inspect and use personal protective equipment for work on or near underground and overhead power circuits and structures.

The dangers of electricity and how an electric shock can be received including - direct contact, induced voltage / impressed voltage, and arcing.

The purpose and method of earthing overhead line conductors for carrying out winching operations under conductors.

How to leave a drum / winch work area in a safe and secure condition

Assessment
A variety of activities, oral, multiple choice, and written questions plus onsite assessment.
Certificates
Once the delegate has successfully completed the course and assessment, the results will be submitted to the awarding body and cards will be issued to the delegate in due course.
Certification for this course is valid for 3 years from the date of training. To remain certified in this area, you will need to retake the assessment before the expiry date on your card.
