This one-day EUSR SCO (Safe Control of Operations) Renewal course covers Modules 1, 2, 4 & 5: SCO Core, Permit to Work, Routine Operations, and Form of Authority. It is designed for Authorising Engineers (AE) and Competent Persons (CP) who require refresher training to maintain their qualifications.

Eligibility

To attend this Renewal/Refresher course, delegates must hold valid, in-date qualifications:

SHEA Gas, GL/6 Update & SCO Modules 1, 2, 4 & 5 or SHEA Gas
EUSR SCO Modules 1, 2 & 5: (Core, Permit to Work and Form of Authority)
EUSR SCO Module 4: Routine Operations (RO) (previously SCO5)

Course Content

Developed in consultation with the gas industry, the EUSR SCO course material is managed by EUSR to ensure alignment with industry standards. The course heavily references IGEM/GL/6 Edition 3, which emphasises risk-based management of gas safety systems and allows gas distribution companies to tailor their procedures while meeting GL/6 compliance requirements.

Delegates will gain knowledge and understanding in the following areas:

Roles and responsibilities of competent persons
Use and application of various permit types
Completion and management of permits to work and forms of authority
Record-keeping requirements
Process for transferring personnel between companies
Deviation reporting and communication procedures
Inspection, monitoring, and audit requirements

Assessment

Competent Persons (CP): Multiple-choice questions after each module
Authorising Engineers (AE): Multiple-choice questions after each module

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course and assessments, results are submitted to the awarding body, and delegates will receive their EUSR SCO cards. Certification is valid for 5 years. Please note that delegates must maintain a valid SHEA Gas qualification for their SCO to remain current.
