Our EUSR SHEA Power course provides essential health, safety, and environmental awareness training for anyone working in the electricity transmission and distribution industry. This accredited SHEA Power training course equips delegates with the knowledge to work safely on or around electrical power utilities, including substations, overhead lines, and underground cables.

Course Content

Our comprehensive SHEA Power training course covers:

Health & safety in the electricity industry
Safe working practices around electrical power
Risk assessments and hazard awareness
Environmental and regulatory responsibilities
Working near overhead lines and underground cables

Modules

Understanding our workplace responsibilities	Underpinning legal frameworks, definitions and their application in the workplace setting, including the responsibilities for both the individual (as an employee) and the employer.
Understanding the effects of our work on the working environment	Key environmental considerations in the workplace, and their impact as employees, on the sustainability of their environment.
Identifying and controlling risks	Helps the individual to identify and control risks and hazards and understand their role in preventing them through a range of positive and proactive health and safety behaviours.
Common hazards in the workplace	Develops the ability to both identify a range of common physical hazards and minimise their impact in the workplace, in line with CSCS requirements.
Occupational health hazards	Explains the meaning of the term 'occupational health' and develops the individual's understanding of a range of occupational health hazards and their requirements. It helps individuals identify, mitigate for and minimise occupational health hazards in the workplace.
Responding to emergencies	Develops individuals' understanding of emergency response behaviours, the role of reporting, inspection, and enforcement of health & safety in the workplace. It also develops an individual's understanding of the impact on employee and employer of both poor/improving health and safety in the workplace.

Plus, the following modules specific to the Power industry:

Power generation and distribution	Awareness of how power is generated and distributed across the network through substations, overhead lines and underground cables and provides an introduction to network components and different voltages.
Power industry hazards	Develop an individual's understanding of electrical safety rules, the purpose of authorisations and the hazards associated with electricity including shocks, burns, arcing and impressed voltage.

The course will be delivered through the context of the power industry.

Multiple choice questions after each module.

Delivery & Certification

The SHEA Power course is delivered in-person over 1 day by experienced trainers. Upon successful completion, you will receive an EUSR SHEA Power card, valid for 3 years.

To remain certified in this area, you will need to retake the SHEA Power course before the expiry date on your card.

The scheme is affiliated with the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) allowing utility workers access to CSCS controlled sites for purposes of utilities work without the need to hold a separate card. The utilities industries share a common goal and commitment to robust mechanisms that enable all workers to demonstrate health and safety awareness and relevant skills and competences.

CSCS affiliated cards carry the CSCS hologram in the top left corner.

Prerequisites

There are no formal entry requirements however a basic level of written and spoken English is required.
