Course Overview
This half-day SHEA Gas scheme is designed for all persons involved in the operational activities of the gas industry who require access to sites, both permanent and temporary, including all levels of operatives, supervisors and management. We can deliver online or in a classroom. If your SHEA Gas is out of date you can do the 1 day EUSR SHEA Gas course instead.
Course Content
The course content and delivery specifications have been developed through consultation with the gas industry. Training material is produced and managed by EUSR on the industry's behalf.
Modules
Understanding our workplace responsibilities |
Underpinning legal frameworks, definitions and their application in the workplace setting, including the responsibilities for both the individual (as an employee) and the employer. |
Understanding the effects of our work on the working environment |
Key environmental considerations in the workplace, and their impact as employees, on the sustainability of their environment. |
Identifying and controlling risks |
Helps the individual to identify and control risks and hazards and understand their role in preventing them through a range of positive and proactive health and safety behaviours. |
Common hazards in the workplace |
Develops the ability to both identify a range of common physical hazards and minimise their impact in the workplace, in line with CSCS requirements. |
Occupational health hazards |
Explains the meaning of the term 'occupational health' and develop the individual's understanding of a range of occupational health hazards and their requirements. It helps individuals identify, mitigate for, and minimise occupational health hazards in the workplace. |
Responding to emergencies |
Develops individuals' understanding of emergency response behaviours, the role of reporting, inspection, and enforcement of health & safety in the workplace. It also develops an individual's understanding of the impact on employee and employer of both poor/improving health and safety in the workplace. |
Plus, the following modules specific to the Gas industry:
Highway working and excavations |
Understanding of the processes and procedures required to work in the highway; this includes both public and private environments and creating a safe working environment through safe systems of work. The individual will know what to do in the case of an emergency. |
Pressure regulating installations |
Understanding of the journey gas makes from beach to meter and the types of risks associated with pressure regulating gas installations. |
Safety in premises |
Understanding of the requirements to working safely in domestic and commercial premises. It also examines how to communicate effectively with customers. |
The course will be delivered through the context of the gas industry.
Assessment
Multiple choice questions after each module.
Certificates
Once the delegate has successfully completed the SHEA Gas course and assessment, the results will be submitted to the awarding body and cards will be issued to the delegate in due course.
Certification for this course is valid for 5 years from the date of training. To remain certified in this area, you will need to retake the 0.5 day EUSR SHEA Gas Renewal course before the expiry date on your card or if your SHEA Gas is out of date you can do the 1 day EUSR SHEA Gas course instead .
The scheme is affiliated with the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) allowing utility workers access to CSCS controlled sites for purposes of utilities work without the need to hold a separate card. The utilities industries share a common goal and commitment to robust mechanisms that enable all workers to demonstrate health and safety awareness and relevant skills and competences.
