Course details

This comprehensive excavation management course provides both theory and hands-on live-dig practical training for supervisors and operatives managing trench and excavation sites. Accredited by EUSR, the training covers soil classification, safe excavation practices, traffic management, and compliance with HSE, CDM, and temporary works standards.

Course Content

• Understand general and specific legislation and guidance pertaining to excavation, construction, and groundworks. For example:
  • HASWA 1974
  • CDM 2015
  • HSG 150 & HSG 47
  • Confined Spaces Regulations 1997
  • CABWI MUNC07
• Recognise when and why excavation support should be employed and the specific safety and shoring systems to prevent near misses, accidents, injuries and/or fatalities on-site. 
• Distinguish between good and bad practices via increased education in this specialist area.
• Identify ground/soil types and changeable conditions faced on-site, including dealing with water. 
• Carry out or interpret Risk Assessments, Permits & Temporary Works Designs

Assessment & Certification

A variety of activities, oral, multiple choice and written questions plus onsite assessment.

Upon successful completion, candidates will be registered on the EUSR and awarded the EUSR excavation management certificate valid for 3 years. 

To remain certified in this area, you will need to retake the EUSR Endorsed Excavation Management Course before the expiry date on your certification.

Prerequisites

There are no formal entry requirements however a basic level of written and spoken English is required.
