Half day
Keep your SCO5 (Routine Operations) qualification up to date with this EUSR-accredited refresher course, designed specifically for individuals who already hold the SCO5 certification and are due for renewal. The course ensures you remain compliant with current Safe Control of Operations (SCO) procedures and industry regulations when supervising routine work on gas infrastructure.
This half-day refresher is ideal for permit-issuing personnel, authorising engineers, and supervisors responsible for managing and authorising routine operations on gas networks. You’ll revisit key knowledge areas, regulatory updates, and complete a short assessment to maintain your EUSR registration.
This course is intended for experienced operatives or supervisors who already hold a current (or recently expired) SCO5 certification and are required to renew their registration for continued authorisation of routine gas operations.
The course heavily uses the IGEM/GL/6 Edition 3 which was introduced into SCO to increase the emphasis on risk-based management of gas safety systems and gives gas distribution companies the flexibility to develop their own gas safety procedures based on meeting the common requirements of GL/6.
The SCO scheme is based around the requirements for meeting GL/6 compliance.
Candidates will sit a written assessment (multiple choice or short answer), focused on updated gas safety regulations and procedural competence.
Upon successful completion, your EUSR SCO5 (RO) registration will be extended for a further 5 years, ensuring continued compliance and authorisation to manage routine gas operations.
In order for your SCO to be used, your SHEA Gas & SCO (Safe Control of Operations) Modules 1, 2 & 5: Core, Permit to Work and Form of Authority (Was previously SCO1 &2) must remain in date.
Candidates must hold a valid or recently expired SCO5 certification. If your certification has lapsed significantly, you may be advised to complete the full SCO5 training instead.
Q. Can I take the SCO5 renewal course after my certification expires?
A. Yes – however, the time since expiry may determine whether you’re eligible for a refresher or need to retake the full course. Contact us to check your eligibility.
Q. How long is the SCO5 renewal valid for?
A. EUSR certification is valid for five years from the date of successful completion.
Q. What if I haven’t used my SCO5 qualification recently?
A. If you haven’t been actively using your SCO5 competencies, you may be advised to re-complete the full course rather than the refresher.
