Designed for individuals who already hold SCO certification and are due for 5-year requalification, this half-day course ensures continued competence in issuing and receiving permits, supervising works, and authorising gas network activities.

It helps meet gas industry safety compliance standards and maintain authorisation under the Safe Control of Operations (SCO) scheme.

Course Content

Modules Refreshed:

• SCO Core – Safe systems of work, responsibilities under legislation, SCO structure
• Module 1 – Permit to Work (Routine Operations): issuing/receiving, record-keeping
• Module 2 – Permit to Work (Non-Routine): complex or high-risk work procedures
• Module 5 – Form of Authority: use, issue, and control of FOA documentation

This course provides knowledge and understanding in the following areas:

1. The roles and responsibilities outlined in the procedure with specific emphasis on competent persons
2. When various permit types are used
3. Application of permits to work and forms of authority
4. The requirements for maintaining records
5. The process for transferring individuals between companies
6. The deviation and communication process
7. The inspection, monitoring and audit requirements

The course heavily uses the IGEM/GL/6 Edition 3 which was introduced into SCO to increase the emphasis on risk-based management of gas safety systems and gives gas distribution companies the flexibility to develop their own gas safety procedures based on meeting the common requirements of GL/6.

The SCO scheme is based around the requirements for meeting GL/6 compliance.

Assessment & Certification

Knowledge is assessed through EUSR-endorsed written or multiple-choice tests.

Upon successful completion delegates will receive a renewed SCO Core, Modules 1, 2 & 5 certificate, valid for five more years, and updated EUSR NRO registration.

In order for your SCO to be used, your SHEA Gas must remain in date. 

Prerequisites

• You must provide evidence of current or recently expired EUSR SCO 1, 2 & 5 certification.
• Delegates should also hold a valid EUSR SHEA Gas passport.
