The EUSR HSG47 HV Subs refresher course is a 1-day course, and we offer open courses throughout the year at Trafford Park, M17 1LB and we can arrange a course at a location to suit you as long as you have live HV substation access arranged.
Please note that a minimum National Grid Authorisation of NG Person Substations is required for our open courses as the practical part of the course is on a live HV substation. As well as an in date EUSR HSG47 HV Substations authorisation.
This course is mapped to both the EUSR, National Occupational Standards, National Grid NSI’s and Supplier Requirement 163 and other associated documentation.
Course Overview
This course will benefit working professionals who need to understand utility drawings and be able to identify types of services and how to locate underground services within or near a National Grid Live HV Substation. This course is a prerequisite for several Principal Contractors and nominated roles such as TP137.11 now SR163.11 PCSM.
Course Content:
Legislation around underground services
How to interpret utility drawings and line search documents
Avoiding damage to underground services
Detection of underground services using cable avoidance tools (CAT4 & Genny)
Understanding of legislation requirements and implications of HSG47
Overview of British Standards Institution (BSI) PAS 128:2022 which is the current specification for underground utility detection.
Use location equipment to locate underground services in a HV Substation
Identify the dangers and hazards associated with underground services in a HV Substation
Identify the dangers and hazards associated with overhead lines and services in a HV Substation
Understand the dangers of working near or under overhead lines in a HV Substation
Understand the risks of making contact with overhead lines during excavations in a HV Substation
Understanding of legislation requirements and implications of GS6 in a HV Substation
Recap of Impressed Voltages and the impact of these when using a Cat and Genny in a HV Substation
Recap of National Grid Safety Distances, Working Procedures and SR163 requirements
Assessment
A variety of activities, oral, multiple choice and written questions plus onsite assessment.
Certificates
Once the delegate has successfully completed the course and assessment, the results will be submitted to the awarding body and cards will be issued to the delegate in due course.
Certification for this course is valid for 3 years from the date of training. To remain certified in this area, you will need to retake the assessment before the expiry date on your card.
